We may be witnessing a vampiric scene, with the girl surrendering to a vampire, offering her wrist ready to be bitten. Yet Košťál approaches the subject subtly and lyrically, leaving us uncertain whether this is not simply an ordinary romantic moment—much like in a similar painting, such as Auguste Renoir's The Lovers.
